The Irish Draught Horse Society has run its annual Performance Competition since 1990. This competition is quite unique in that it is open to registered Irish horses competing in ANY discipline. This means as long as you are gaining points in your discipline or disciplines of choice you can enter our Performance competition.
The winners are judged at the end of each competition year and those who have been awarded the most points during the year are rewarded with some great prizes.
There are even sections for the most unusual disciplines which makes the competition very inclusive and interesting. We have some wonderful trophies for breeders and owners and beautiful sashes to be won in Irish classes at participating shows. So many reasons to get out there and show the world our beautiful and versatile horses.
2019-20 Performance Competition (forms at the bottom of this page)
We are delighted to update you with the 2019-20 IDHS of NZ Performance Competition conditions and entry forms.
Due to the impact of Covid-19 and the flow on effects for businesses, we have opted not to ask for sponsorship from businesses this year, but will just run the competition with our trophies and sashes.
The winners of our In-hand and Ridden sections will receive the lovely society perpetual trophies and sashes, and the two runner-ups will also receive sashes.
We still have the Most Points sashes and trophies for the six disciplines and the Mare with the Most Points.
And once again the breeders of the winners will be presented with a society medal.
This year we again have lovely rosettes for The Most Versatile Horse, The Most Unusual Event Points were gained in and the Horse with the Most Points who has more than 50% Irish Draught blood!!
So still plenty of opportunity to win so get those entries in no matter how many, or how few points you have, you could still be a winner!! So please support the competition if you have been out competing your lovely Irish horse - and don't forget to encourage anyone you know that rides an Irish to consider joining and entering.
A huge thank you to our wonderful sponsors from last year - I have written to them all thanking them for their sponsorship last year, and letting them know that we won't be asking for sponsorship this year, so please do continue to support them when you can as we hope they will welcome us back again next year! (And I can excitingly advise that some wonderful sponsors have very kindly still sent us some product for prizes, so there will still be some prizes this year for our lucky winners!!)
